Very Important Fatwa (husband’s bad behavior)

His Eminence, the Scholar Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Baz, may Allah preserve him, answered this question: A woman complains about her husband’s bad behavior!!

The Answer:

If what you have mentioned in your question about your husband is true – that he abandons prayer and insults religion – then he has become an unbeliever by these actions. It is not permissible for you to stay with him nor remain in his house. Instead, you must leave to your family or to any place where you feel safe, as Allah the Exalted says regarding believing women with disbelievers: “They are not lawful [wives] for them, nor are they lawful [husbands] for them” [Al-Mumtahanah: 10]. And because of the Prophet’s saying: “The covenant between us and them is prayer, so whoever abandons it has disbelieved” reported by Tirmidhi, Nasa’i and others.

Also, insulting religion is major disbelief by consensus of Muslims. Therefore, you are obligated to hate him for Allah’s sake, separate from him, and not allow him access to yourself. Allah the Exalted says: “And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out * And will provide for him from where he does not expect” [At-Talaq: 2-3].

May Allah ease your situation and save you from his evil “if you are truthful” and may Allah guide him to the truth and bless him with repentance. Indeed, He, Glory be to Him, is Generous and Noble.
